DESERT STAR PLASTICS

GLUE THE WOOD TO ACRYLIC

GLUE THE WOOD TO ACRYLIC

Is there a market for that?

Really, I do not know.  On my search to glue acrylic together without bubbles and easily, I found a way to glue the Plexiglas/ acrylic to the hardwood.

Usually, when a fabricator wants to hold a Plexiglas panel on a wood panel, either they are using screws or they are making a groove in the wood, they put some glue type epoxy and slide the acrylic panel in it. Doing so, the glue is not visible. For a table, they are using gravity. The legs are in acrylic and the plate in wood. That holds with screws from the bottom of the wood.

With the technology developed at Desert Star Plastics, we can buttjoint the wood and the acrylic and have a perfect invisible bonding.

Now, here is the catch. We are not good in design. Since nobody did that before, there are no original designs that take full advantage of this new capability.

If somebody has an idea, feel free to contact us at tanguy@desertstarplastics.com

Thank you

HANG THE PROCEDURE CHART OR PROCESS FLOWCHART DISPLAY

HANG THE PROCEDURE CHART OR PROCESS FLOWCHART DISPLAY

One blog away, I mentioned the use of the procedure charts and how efficient it is to have a special Plexiglas display for each of one.

There are still some problems in paradise

1/ hang it on the wall:  sometime, we do not have the drill, the bit or the medium to drill in (Kitchen stainless steel). For these reasons, we have as well some double face tape (the very strong one). At Desert Star plastics, not all the displays or holders have the tape, but it will be provided at request.

2/ breakage: plastic break, which is a fact.  To decrease the rate of breakage, first do not clean any plastic with Windex, alcohol or ammoniac. This will weaken the plastic tremendously.

Also, we provide some plastics displays made out of” difficult to break “(PE line) material and we developed some design to reduce the rate of mishap (holes in the big displays)

All these are to make your acrylic Plexiglas display last longer.

WHAT IS A PROCEDURE CHART OR PROCESS FLOWCHART?

WHAT IS A PROCEDURE CHART OR PROCESS FLOWCHART?

It is also: process flowchart, process flow diagram.

A flowchart is a picture of the separate steps of a process in sequential order.

Elements that may be included are: sequence of actions, materials or services entering or leaving the process (inputs and outputs), decisions that must be made, people who become involved, time involved at each step and/or process measurements.

The process described can be anything: a manufacturing process, an administrative or service process, a project plan. This is a generic tool that can be adapted for a wide variety of purposes.

When to Use a Flowchart

  • To develop understanding of how a process is done.
  • To study a process for improvement.
  • To communicate to others how a process is done.
  • When better communication is needed between people involved with the same process.(example: Fast food industry: due to the high level of employee turnover, the chart is a very important element to guarantee the consistency)
  • To document a process.( example: Fast food industry: the final product need to be the same in every location)
  • When planning a project.

Flowchart Basic Procedure

Materials needed: sticky notes or cards, a large piece of flipchart paper or newsprint, marking pens.

  1. Define the process to be diagrammed. Write its title at the top of the work surface.
  2. Discuss and decide on the boundaries of your process: Where or when does the process start? Where or when does it end? Discuss and decide on the level of detail to be included in the diagram.
  3. Brainstorm the activities that take place. Write each on a card or sticky note. Sequence is not important at this point, although thinking in sequence may help people remember all the steps.
  4. Arrange the activities in proper sequence.
  5. When all activities are included and everyone agrees that the sequence is correct, draw arrows to show the flow of the process.
  6. Review the flowchart with others involved in the process (workers, supervisors, suppliers, customers) to see if they agree that the process is drawn accurately.

Flowchart Considerations

  • Don’t worry too much about drawing the flowchart the “right way.” The right way is the way that helps those involved understand the process.
  • Identify and involve in the flowcharting process all key people involved with the process. This includes those who do the work in the process: suppliers, customers and supervisors. Involve them in the actual flowcharting sessions by interviewing them before the sessions and/or by showing them the developing flowchart between work sessions and obtaining their feedback.
  • Do not assign a “technical expert” to draw the flowchart. People who actually perform the process should do it.
  • Computer software is available for drawing flowcharts. Software is useful for drawing a neat final diagram, but the method given here works better for the messy initial stages of creating the flowchart.

How to display the process flowchart?

Here is one of the biggest bottle necks in the day to day management. These flowcharts are taped on a wall, removed, retaped, until they get tears apart, stain or lost, And we do another one.

Purpose?  Wasting time and money. If the chart is not at the right spot all the time, it’s just a failure.

To prevent that, a display system can be implemented.

A specific display for a specific chart.

Doing so, there is no excuse for stain, lost etc. You can easily read the chart, manage the chart and let it at the right spot for the next person,

So easy…

At Desert Star Plastics, we have a full line of product to protect and display your flowcharts or procedure charts (mostly for the fast food industry)

Circle k Convienence Stores

Circle K Arizona  as a close-to-you convenience store is reorganizing the displays in its premises to provide better breakfasts, snakes and dinners .

For the last three years, we saw the improvement in the organization of the food displays and appreciated the effort and work the Circle K team made to reach this beautiful result.

A convenient store with the Circle K philosophy brings the people together. The local Circle K team is involved in their community through their sport team, their belief, their education and some time their tragedy, to make it short, our life.

By doing just these improvements in the store and the Circle K team participation in our community, Circle K makes our place safer, friendlier and yes, my work commutation more agreeable.

Honor Boxes/Charity

Honor boxes

These boxes are really successful to support a charity project. You provide a mint candy as a thank you for the donation. One compartment is for the money, one for the candy.

Do not provide big and/or expensive candies/snacks, which will increase the abuse and the need of maintenance.

Don’t Make the Box Too Complicated

This affects access for donors and the people who have to empty them. Keep in mind donations can add up quickly so you’ll want volunteers to be able to empty the donation boxes conveniently.

Difficult locks or oversized, complicated displays are discouraging and time-consuming. The same thing goes for donors – they should be able to tell at a glance it’s a donation box and reach it easily.(VISIT coolplastic.com)

Do Offer Something in Return

Place a small brochure, stickers, information about your organization/ charity, or some other takeaway item next to your donation box as a “thank you” to donors. This thoughtful gesture will lend validity to your cause and give you some free publicity. It can also help spread the word about your need for donations.

Fundraising through the Honor box system is an efficient way to remind the community about some charity need without harassing it. The box is there. You feel appeal by the cause or not, but nobody here to push or judge. It’s a peaceful choice.
